See what’s in the PS4 Pro box: a kinda-sorta unboxing video
Surprise! There’s an HDMI cable, and other things you absolutely expect.
So, we’ve got a PS4 Pro in the house. It’s here. There’s still a week until we can officially talk about all of the system in detail, so we’re going to spend that time testing it out in as many different ways as we can – at 1080p, at 4K, with and without HDR, and of course in VR. You can look forward to all that stuff in the near future.
One of the things we are allowed to share with you is what’s in the box. So, here: Upon return from the PS4 Pro launch event in London I quickly whacked out the tripod and recorded this – it’s not the most slickly produced thing in the world, but if you just want a gander at what’s in the box, we’ve got you covered. Spoilers: It’s exactly what you’d expect in there.
As a bonus, I drag in an original model PS4 and an Xbox One S for size comparisons too.
Much more PS4 Pro to come, but if you need more right this damn second we’ve got write-ups on preview builds of Gran Turismo Sport and Horizon: Zero Dawn running on the PS4 Pro up already.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is confirmed and today we want to take a look at everything we know about the Red Dead Redemption 2 release.
2010’s Red Dead Redemption was the spiritual successor to Red Dead Revolver. The title garnered numerous awards and it’s considered one of the best video games of all time. Naturally, fans clamored for a sequel. And after several long years, Rockstar Games is poised to deliver.
After years of rumors and speculation, Red Dead Redemption 2 is confirmed though it won’t be making its way to shelves this holiday season. Fans of the series will have to wait awhile before the Red Dead Redemption 2 release date arrives.
With Red Dead Redemption 2 releaseofficially confirmed we want to take a look at the most important things to know, right now, about the Red Dead Redemption 2 release date, pre-orders, features and more.
We’ll continue to update this roundup with new details to check back for regular updates in the buildup to the game’s release date.
Red Dead Redemption 2 for PS4 & Xbox One
Red Dead Redemption 2 is confirmed for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Developers have shifted away from the PS3 and Xbox 360 so a release on those two aging consoles is unlikely. It’s unclear if the game will make it to Wii U, Nintendo Switch or the Windows PC.
Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC
The Red Dead Redemption 2 announcement arrived without confirmation for Windows PC users.
This doesn’t rule out Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC but this certainly won’t sit well with those who prefer Rockstar’s games on Windows.
It’s still early and we could of course see Rockstar announce Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC in the weeks ahead.
Some analysts believe the developer will release a version of the game for Windows PC down the road with one predicting a Red Dead Redemption 2 release date for PC in early 2018.
Remember, Grand Theft Auto 5 for PC arrived several months after it landed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Release Date
The Red Dead Redemption 2 release date won’t land in 2016. Instead, Rockstar Games has confirmed a release for 2017.
The company hasn’t issued a specific release date for the game just yet so we’re left with a Fall 2017 release window. For reference, the Grand Theft Auto 5 release date landed at the start of the fall in mid-September.
It’s not clear when we’ll get an official Red Dead Redemption 2 release date for Xbox One and PS4. (And, fingers crossed, PC.) Those interested in the game’s release should signup for Rockstar’s mailing list.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Pre-Orders
Also of note is the fact that some retailers are already taking Red Dead Redemption 2 pre-ordersahead of the game’s release date.
Retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop are selling the game a year in advance and those with Amazon Prime and Gamers Club Unlocked accounts can take advantage of early Red Dead Redemption 2 deals.
Target is also offering an early Red Dead Redemption 2 deal that lasts through November 5th. The deal is a buy two get one free and it allows you to include a Red Dead Redemption 2 pre-order in the bundle.
Those not looking to buy from a third-party can pre-order the game via Sony (Microsoft says pre-orders for Xbox One are coming soon) or Rockstar itself.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Story, Characters & More
Rockstar says that Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature an “epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland” which seems to confirm an expansive single-player mode.
The characters in the teaser above haven’t been confirmed but there’s a ton of speculation and some of it points to a potential prequel featuring the protagonist from the first game, John Marston.
The developer goes on to say that the game’s “vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.”
Grand Theft Auto 5 Online arrived alongside the single-player portion of the game and it looks like Rockstar has grand designs for Red Dead Redemption as well.
The company’s reportedly registered a Red Dead Redemption online domain ahead of the game’s launch next year. Look for the experience to build on GTA 5’s online mode.
Rockstar typically has used third-person view in its games though GTA 5 added in a unique first-person view. Naturally, fans of the Red Dead series are interested to see if the company brings that element to Red Dead Redemption 2.
Nothing is confirmed but here’s what Rockstar had to say about third-person and first-person during a question and answer session:
“We are excited by the response to our first effort at a first-person experience, but remain committed to third person games and may or may not use first person as a camera option in the future.
We do like to, whenever possible, give people options so they can play a game the way they like.”
Red Dead Redemption 2 Map
Earlier this year, an alleged Red Dead Redemption 2 map leaked showing some of the game’s potential locations. The map first appeared on NeoGAF.
While the alleged map was later removed from the website, some users were able to save it for the world to see.
According to TechRadar, this map is legit and it’s for Red Dead Redemption 2. There are numerous locations listed including The Great Plains, home to the Blackwater settlement.
There are also several bodies of water, something that we didn’t see in Red Dead Redemption.
If you’re curious about how the Red Dead Redemption 2 map stacks up with the map from the original, Reddit has you covered.
The image above shows how the official map from the first game stacks up, size-wise, with the leaked map for Red Dead Redemption 2.
PS4 Red Dead Redemption 2 Bonus
Sony and Rockstar have announced a partnership for Red Dead Redemption 2. Sony says that “PS4 players get first access to earn select online content in the vast open world of Red Dead Redemption 2.”
It’s not clear what this content is though Sony tells PS4 owners they can expect some more details in the near future.
The company also notes that the PS3 classic Red Dead Redemption will be coming to PlayStation Now soon.”
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare takes the series to space
Final Fantasy XV has been in development for over a decade
Pokemon Sun and Moon has the biggest changes to the series yet
November is traditionally the month of the year when most of the big releases take place, on both consoles and PC. This year is no different. From Call of Duty to Pokemon, and even Final Fantasy, there’s a lot to look forward to. Here are the games you should be checking out this month.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
It might have one of the most reviled trailers in YouTube’s history, and the multiplayer may not be all that original or fun, but we can’t help but feel optimistic about Infinite Warfare. The single-player campaign shows promise, what with space combat, elements of exploration, and some interesting set-pieces. We won’t have to wait too long to see if it lives up to the promise. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is out on November 4 for the PS4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
Dishonored 2
The original Dishonored was a breath of fresh air, merging elaborate steampunk trappings with a dense atmosphere and highly polished gameplay mechanics that made you feel like every bit the supernatural assassin it wanted you to be. Dishonored 2 promises no less, allowing you to play not just as the first game’s protagonist - Corvo - but as his daughter, Emily as well. With an array of skills and intriguing plot, Dishonored 2 is one to look out for. The game is out on November 11 for the PS4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
Watch Dogs 2
Perhaps one of the most culturally relevant big budget games in a while, Watch Dogs 2 takes a jab at startup culture, smart cities, technology, memes, and the Internet at large, as it features such diversions as allowing you to punch a digital parody of Big Pharma bro Martin Shkreli in the face, among other things. To further up the ante, you play as Marcus Holloway a black hacker convicted for crimes he didn’t commit. The first Watch Dogs had solid gameplay mechanics marred by some technical failings. Will Watch Dogs 2 suffer the same fate? We’ll know when it hits on November 15 for the PS4 and Xbox One, and November 29 for the PC.
Pokemon Sun and Moon Pokemon Go might be the biggest Pokemon game this year, but Pokemon Sun and Moon has the largest number of changes to a formula that’s been around for the better part of 20 years. There’s fully 3D polygonal graphics, the ability to customise trainer appearance, Z-moves - powerful, special skills that can be used once in battle, and Pokemon that transform their appearance and abilities with a change in weather. Nintendo might shy away from India but the game will still be available from November 18 for the 3DS.
Final Fantasy XV
This game was first announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, at a time when Nokia and Blackberry were mobile powerhouses, so it’s safe to say a whole lot has changed since Final Fantasy XV was first revealed, and not just its title. With an interesting battle system, polished visuals, and remarkably honest developer updates, the game is looking very promising. Hopefully we won’t see it delayed again. Final Fantasy XV is out on November 29 for the PS4 and Xbox One.
And this isn’t all. Other games worth checking out in November include Assassin’s Creed Ezio Collection, visual novels such as Steins;Gate 0, and Root Letter, and the spiritual successor to Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, Planet Coaster.
The Last of Us is used once again to demonstrate advancement visuals and hardware tech.
Originally released on PS3, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us looked leagues above games available at the time on Sony’s console. The game was ported to PS4 at launch in the form of The Lat of Us Remastered, and with the release of PS4 Pro approaching fast, a new update has been released to breathe new life into it.
Patch 1.7 is available now for everyone, and it brings support for the new console. What’s more, the update adds support for HDR, which you don’t need a Pro for.
A number of NeoGAF members took screenshots after applying the update. These are off-screen, but you’ll be able to clearly see the difference HDR makes. With HDR on, clouds are much more pronounced, and despite the fog, you can clearly make out the darker and bright areas.
Here they are: HDR off is on the left.
This set shows another one of the game’s scenes. With HDR on, the lighting is a lot closer to what you might see in similar conditions in the real-world. Shadows and colours are more close to their real-life counterparts, as opposed to the “videogamy” look you see with HDR off.
PlayStation 4 Pro is out November 10, but anyone with an HDR TV can see these visual improvements today.
